Risk Assessment Independent Contractors (2/1/10)

Visual Insurance Solution is an inspection service company that will be outsourcing inspections throughout the country. We are expecting to see more business opportunities in the Portland, Oregon area and are looking for independent contractors to handle the inspections for us. We will pay between $55 and $65 per inspection depending on experience and quality of work. Once you are at the business, the survey should take .5 hours (1/2 hour). Entering the information into our website and downloading the pictures should take another .5 hours (1/2 hour) on average. Our main focus is providing risk assessment for Gas Stations and Repair Garage accounts.

Associate Director, Environmental Health & Safety (2/1/10)

The purpose of this position is to evaluate, develop and implement environmental programs to assist the University with environmental compliance and exceptional environmental stewardship. Additionally, this position will at times act on behalf of the EHS Director and assist others in EHS with performance improvement efforts. The Associate Director will remain abreast of applicable environmental regulations and provide professional expertise in the evaluation and control of environmental issues and conditions for a large and complex 24/7 operation with facilities in several locations.

The Associate Director reports to the Environmental Health and Safety Director, and is responsible for the supervision of five classified staff members.

The University of Oregon is a comprehensive research university with over 3,800 faculty and staff members and a student enrollment that tops 20,000. Located 110 miles south of Portland, the state's major metropolitan area, 60 miles from the coast, and 70 miles from the Cascade Mountains, Eugene (population 150,000 plus) has abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation and a vibrant arts community.

Duties:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with 5-years of environmental management experience is required. Additionally, professional certification, such as a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist or Registered Environmental Health Specialist, or an advanced degree is highly desirable. Experience supervising others is preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to present material effectively before diverse audiences are also required.

Construction/Facilities Safety Officer (1/22/10)

Location: Oregon Health & Science University
Salary Range: $29.49-39.82/hr

The Construction/Facilities Safety Officer communicates construction safety program requirements to project managers and other construction management personnel. Key responsibilities include pre-job planning for safe work procedures, on-site safety reviews, document review, construction safety training & documentation, and reporting of safety performance. Provides safety services for all OHSU construction related projects, including new construction, renovation and remodel work. Additionally provides occupational safety services for internal Operations and Maintenance staff.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities

Construction and Remodel Projects. Assists in the development of bids and plans and specifications for construction projects; participates in pre-bid conferences, walk-throughs, and pre-construction meetings. Develops and maintains regular interface with contractors, and assists them with planning and site reviews to prevent undesirable impacts to workers, staff, visitors, and OHSU operations. Provides recommendations for improvement. Investigates serious incidents or near-misses with potential serious consequences.
Project Reports. Assemble and maintain records of audit findings, recommendations, and corrective actions for each worksite. Prepare summary reports as requested by managers/directors from F&RE, EH&RS, and/or Risk Management departments.

Operations & Maintenance Safety Program. Work with stakeholders to develop, implement, and maintain Facilities Management & Real Estate safety programs, SOPs, and safety-related consultation. Conduct or provide resources for safe work task training for Operations & Maintenance employees. Conduct periodic reviews of F&RE work areas and work practices for optimal safe work practices.

Consultation. Works with stakeholders to develop, implement, and maintain Facilities Management & Real Estate safety programs, SOPs, and safety-related consultation. Conducts or provides resources for safe work task training for maintenance employees.

Continuous Process Improvement. Develops, promotes and sustains process improvement initiatives throughout all levels of the department. Supports an environment and mechanism to share ideas and promote opportunities to learn new techniques and methods that will improve the department’s products and services.

Required Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent Bachelors Degree) or six (6) years work experience in commercial/industrial construction site safety. Minimum five (5) years experience in commercial/industrial construction site safety. Requires strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local construction safety regulations. Must be able to establish effective working relationships with project and maintenance managers. Must be able to manage multiple projects and priorities and make sound decisions in a timely fashion. Ability to function in a position designed to serve independent operating units in decentralized environment. Proficiency with Microsoft products, including Word, Access, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint. Understands and can utilize AutoCAD, and data management tools used for analyzing construction reporting data. This position requires extensive knowledge and skills related to the safe operation of construction sites, including but not limited to, excavation, scaffolding, forklift operation, cranes/hoists, fall protection, signs/barricades, steel erection, hand/portable tools, confined space and hearing conservation.

Additional Details: Will be required to carry a pager and respond to emergencies during non-business hours. Required to occasionally wear personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection equipment (up to ½ face negative pressure respirator). Must be able to frequently walk up and down stairs and occasionally use ladders or enter confined spaces. Must be capable of lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work schedule may vary due to construction schedule. Night and/or weekend work may be required. Work locations will vary, including academic and hospital environments both on and off campus. Travel may be required throughout the Portland Metro area.
